Who are we?

Sardina d.o.o. is one of Croatia’s leading companies in the fishing and fish processing industry, proudly carrying a century-old tradition. We specialize in fishing, processing, and canning fish, as well as cultivating mariculture products on our own farms. Our commitment is to produce high-quality, natural, and healthy fish products, supported by our own fishing fleet and state-of-the-art technology. Through continuous investment in innovation and development, we ensure customer satisfaction worldwide. Our strong presence across five continents reflects our reputation and leadership in the industry.

Why do we do this?

Our mission is clear: to offer the market the finest fish products that blend tradition with modern quality standards. A passion for the sea and fishing, deeply embedded in our DNA, drives us to continuously invest in the production processes, innovation, and the professional growth of our team. Our goal extends beyond business success to long-term customer satisfaction and sustainable practices that respect nature and marine resources. We believe quality, dedication, and responsibility are the cornerstones of lasting success.

How it all began...

Our story dates back to 1907 when Viennese industrialist Karl Varhaneck founded a fish processing factory in Postira on the island of Brač.

Over the decades, Sardina experienced many changes, including a production halt during World War II, followed by a revival in 1948. A major milestone came in 1957 with the establishment of our own fishing fleet, giving us full control over both fishing and processing operations. In the years that followed, we continued to grow, modernize, and expand our capacities – adding new production lines, cold storage facilities, and processing plants, and introducing mariculture in 1996.

...and where are we today?

Today, Sardina is a modern company operating under the highest standards of quality and sustainability.

We own a fishing fleet of seven vessels and, with our current capacity, are well-equipped to meet the demands of the global market.

Our presence both regionally and worldwide continues to grow – we export to more than 20 countries, with up to 70% of our production destined for foreign markets. Yet, our greatest pride lies in our employees, many of whom have been with us for decades, often spanning multiple generations within the same family.
